Inmate dies after 33 yrs on Death Row at Polunsky Unit (TX)
A diagnosed paranoid
schizophrenic with an IQ of 65, Ray Martinez was one of the state's
longest-serving death row prisoners.
Ray Martinez had
been on death row since July 18, 1984, for a capital murder
conviction.
Respected death
penalty lawyer Patrick McCann, who represented Martinez earlier in
the appeals process, laughed upon hearing of his former client's
death.
"He
won then," he said.
