This auction is for a letter from the deceased California rapist and murderer James Leslie Karis Jr. On 7/8/1981, James Karis abducted two women a gunpoint, took them to a remote area, bound one and raped the other. He shot both women afterwards with one surviving. James Karis would be arrested a week later. Ultimately, he would be convicted and sentenced to death in 1982. James Karis would be re-sentenced to death on 4/25/2007 after his initial death sentence was overturned. On 1/13/2013, Karis was found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced death. He was 61.

ITEM DESCRIPTION: The missive is two pages on one sheet, dated 7/18/2007, and signed, "Jim." In the letter Karis talks mostly about his handwriting and not having a typewriter anymore. The original mailing envelope is postmarked 7/30/2007. The letter and envelope come inside a protective magazine sleeve with an acid free board and have been stored flat.
