The 27-year-old Kayla Alery has been in the news lately because she is involved in a criminal case. She is charged with killing someone in Las Vegas at random. Raul Cardoza, a 41-year-old employee in carpet cleaning, was the victim. The event took place at an apartment building in the west valley. Cardoza and his brother were supposedly taking a break when Cardoza was shot by Alery, who has been out on parole since December after being found guilty of arson. According to reports, she told the police that she doesn't remember the incident because she has schizophrenia. Alery was mandated by the court to go through a competency evaluation after her arrest. She is scheduled for a competency hearing following the evaluation.

A woman accused of randomly shooting and killing a man was released from prison months ago and ordered not to have any weapons.
Las Vegas Metro police arrested Kayla Alery, 27, on charges including open murder and assault with a deadly weapon shortly after the shooting at an apartment complex in the 3600 block of South Fort Apache Road near Twain Avenue.
Witnesses at the
scene provided officers with an initial suspect description of a man
with facial and neck tattoos wearing dark clothing and carrying bags.
Officers were then able to locate Alery nearby. However, when police
found her, she was identified as a woman in her 20s.
“This appears to be a random shooting of a completely innocent, hardworking human being who was here at work and was shot and killed while doing their job,” it was said.
The victim in the case involving Kayla Alery was Raul Cardoza, a 41-year-old veteran carpet cleaner. Raul Cardoza worked for a Las Vegas carpet cleaning company for 25 years and was with his brother at the time of the incident. He was a native of El Salvador and is survived by two daughters. He was described as a dedicated worker beloved by his employer and the company’s customers. The shooting occurred in broad daylight on March 26 at the Venicia Apartments in Las Vegas.
She
has a history of legal issues, including a conviction for arson in
2022. She was on parole at the time of the shooting. Her criminal
background includes arrests for domestic battery, coercion with
force, DUI, burglary, grand larceny of a gun, ownership or possession
of a firearm by a prohibited person, and obstructing a public
officer.
Kayla Alery was granted parole in December 2023 after serving time for arson charges. Here's a brief overview of the events that led to her parole: In September 2022, Alery was convicted of third-degree and fourth-degree arson for attempting to set fire to a vehicle. She was sentenced to between 14 and 36 months for each charge. The parole board granted her release effective December 5, 2023, after she served the minimum sentence of 14 months.
Alery was allegedly inside the complex, checking car doors to see if they were unlocked. Several people notified the apartment leasing manager, who then asked maintenance workers to go and search for the reported suspect and get them off the property.
While workers searched for that person, two men inside a carpet cleaning company van were parked at the complex. Police then stated that the female suspect quickly approached the van, pulled out her gun and shot the van’s driver.
“Right now, we have no indication at all that our victim had any interaction with the suspect prior to that occurring. Our suspect then fled out of the gate.” “They were here just doing their job, doing an estimate to clean someone’s carpet sitting in their van.”
The motive behind the killing for which Kayla Alery is accused is not entirely clear. However, according to her statements to the police, she suffers from schizophrenia and claimed she did not remember shooting anyone. She mentioned that she hears voices and "sometimes blacks out for days".
During her incarceration, Kayla Alery's behavior included an additional charge for battery by a prisoner. This indicates that there was at least one incident where she was involved in a physical altercation while in custody.
Actually, Kayla Alery is a man with facial and neck tattoos. No doubt the trans angle helped him get early parole. Nowhere in the narrative is it acknowledged that Alery is not really a woman.
