After the infamous murders of Abby and Andrew Borden, Lizzie Borden was given a medication called Bromo Caffeine by Dr. Seabury Bowen to help calm her down. This medication was contained in a cobalt blue Bromo Caffeine bottle, which has since become a notable artifact associated with the case.
Bromo Caffeine was a mixture that likely contained both bromides, which are sedatives, and caffeine. Despite caffeine being a stimulant, the combination was intended to calm nerves, possibly by balancing the effects of the sedative.
