Case Background: Between April 6, 2022, and May 5, 2022, Martin Connearney communicated with an individual to discuss and plan his sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl in the Capital Region of New York. A plan was devised for Connearney to travel from Massachusetts to the Capital Region to engage in sexual contact with the minor.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings: On May 5, 2022, Connearney drove to a prearranged location in Columbia County, New York, where he was encountered and arrested by law enforcement officials. He was charged with traveling across state lines with the intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor.
Plea and Sentencing: Connearney pled guilty to the charges and was scheduled to be sentenced on May 30, 2024. He faces a maximum term of 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life, and mandatory registration as a sex offender.
