Letter/envelope set from the executed Texas murderer.
This auction is for a letter from executed Texas murderer Michael Lynn Riley (5/9/1958 - 5/19/2009). On the morning of 2/1/1986, Michael Riley went into the Quitman Shop-A-Minit convenience store he would frequent with the intent to rob the establishment. The 23-year-old female clerk was counting money when Michael Riley produced a butcher knife and stabbed her 31 times. He stole $1,110. His motive was to support his gambling habit. The Wood County sheriff's office followed the bloody footprints to Michael Riley's home. After several lines of questioning Michael Riley confessed to the murder and turned over the stolen money to police. Michael Riley would be convicted of robbery/murder in 1986 and sentenced to death. His death sentence would be overturned by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 1993. Michael Riley elected to plead guilty the second time around and was resentenced to death in 1995. He was executed on 5/19/2009. Michael Riley was 51.
