Letter/envelope set from the Illinois Weekend Murderer.
This auction is for a letter from the condemned Illinois "Weekend Murderer" Milton Johnson. In 1983, Johnson murdered at least 10 people, but is suspected to have committed 17. On 6/25/1983, two sisters were shot and burned to death in their home. Then on 7/2/1983, two more people were found, shot to death in a car. On 7/16/1983, two victims were murdered on a roadside turn-around, two responding police officers were also killed, two additional motorist were shot, but one survived. The next day Johnson murdered a man and abducted his girlfriend, who raped and stabbed. She would survive. On 8/20/1983, Johnson would kill four women, stabbing them a total of 43 times. Johnson would be arrested 3/9/1984 during a visit with his parole officer. He would be convicted on multiple counts during two trials and sentenced to death. Johnson's death sentence would be commuted to life in 2003.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: The missive is two pages on two sheets, dated 12/30/1997, and signed, "Milton." The original mailing envelope is postmarked 12/31/1997.
