Early Life and Background
Sean Patrick Goble was born on November 1, 1966, in Asheboro, North Carolina. He was raised in a family that experienced significant turmoil; his father, Kenneth Goble, was convicted of raping a young girl during a home invasion when Sean was just six years old. This traumatic event had a lasting impact on Sean’s life. Following his father’s imprisonment, the family relocated to Illinois, where Sean attended Auburn High School but dropped out during his senior year in 1984. After some time, he joined the army and later became a truck driver in 1991.

Goble is infamously known as “The Interstate Killer”, aka “Baileyton Truck Stop Murderer”, “The Wild One” having kidnapped and murdered at least four women across the Southern United States between 1994 and 1995. His victims included:
Lisa Susan O’Rourke: Abducted along Interstate 10 in January 1994, she was later found dead under a bridge in Alabama.
Brenda Kay Hagy: Kidnapped from Tennessee in January 1995, her body was discovered along an access road to Interstate 81.
Sherry Tew Mansur: Last seen alive on January 31, 1995; her body was found dumped along Interstate 40.
Alice Rebecca Hanes: Abducted from a gas station in Tennessee and smothered to death before being disposed of along Interstate 81.
Goble’s modus operandi involved picking up vulnerable women – often those involved in prostitution or living transient lifestyles – and subsequently murdering them after sexual encounters.
Arrest and Conviction
Goble’s downfall came after investigators linked him to Brenda Kay Hagy’s murder through fingerprints found at the crime scene. He was arrested outside the trucking company where he worked in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A search of his truck revealed incriminating evidence including personal items belonging to one of the victims.
In December 1995, Goble pled guilty to first-degree murder and received a life sentence without parole for his crimes. Since then, authorities have investigated him for additional unsolved murders across ten other states; however, while he has been cleared of some cases, the total number of his victims remains uncertain.
Legal Proceedings Post-Conviction
Goble has made attempts to challenge his conviction through post-conviction relief petitions claiming innocence based on DNA evidence not being tested against samples collected from victims.
