Shelton Dewayne Jackson was sentenced to death in 1997 for the murder of a friend in Tulsa. According to the prosecutor, he killed her so she wouldn't report him for injuring her 2-year-old son. He had harmed the boy for crying and hidden him beneath a nearby vacant house. The boy was discovered, but he sustained permanent injuries. In 2016, the Supreme Court declined to hear his case.

In 1997, Sheldon Jackson, then 27, stabbed and beat to death his girlfriend, Monica Decator, and attempted to burn her body by setting fire to her Tulsa home. This heinous man had also abused Monica's two-year-old son, Oz, and had kept the infant in a freezing crawl space beneath a vacant house for several hours before being discovered, nearly lifeless. Oz survived, but he has permanent brain damage. Prosecutors claim Jackson murdered Monica so she would not report his child abuse to authorities. He was sentenced to life in prison for injuring Oz and to death for killing the child's mother.
