Letter/envelope set from the South Carolina maternal filicide.
This auction is for a letter from South Carolina maternal filicide Susan Smith. On 10/25/1994, Susan Smith drowned her two young sons buy rolling her car into a local lake with the two secured in car seats. The case made national headlines when explanation for the missing children was a carjacking by an unknown African American male. Ultimately Susan Smith would confess on 11/3/1994 and subsequently received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: The missive is two pages on two sheets, dated 1/22/2012, and signed, "Susan." There are three little drawings with the signature. Lots of content about her children in this one. It looks like there was something spilled on the envelope when the letter was inside it. I can't speak to what that might be as I didn't originally receive the correspondence. That and I know better! The liquid doesn't smudge or dye any of the penmanship. The original mailing envelope is postmarked 1/23/2012. The letter and envelope come inside a protective magazine sleeve with an acid free board and have been stored flat. Message me with any questions you might have. Thanks for having a look-see.
