Overview of Tekquan Alexander’s Case
Tekquan Alexander, an aspiring rapper, and nephew of LA Rams cornerback Troy Hill is facing multiple charges of felony child abuse, torture, aggravated mayhem, and weapons charges following his arrest for allegedly beating his 4-year-old daughter Alani Watts. E.R. records show that the child suffered severe brain injuries that have caused an inability to open her eyes for months. Tekquan Alexander, a 28-year-old man from Thousand Oaks, California, was sentenced to life in prison for the brutal beating of his four-year-old daughter, Alani. This case has garnered significant media attention due to the severity of the abuse and its lasting impact on the child.
Details of the Incident
The abuse occurred over several days in November 2021. Prosecutors reported that Alexander assaulted Alani on at least two occasions. The first incident involved him punching her and using a belt as a weapon. The second assault took place after Alani wet her bed; during this incident, he escalated the violence by using both a belt and a stereo amplifier cable. He continued to beat her until she became unresponsive in their home bathroom.
The father said the child is a "bed-wetter." When she wets the bod, he punishes her by making her do rigorous exercises with an element of physical abuse, including but not limited to hitting with boxing gloves, hitting her with a belt and hitting her with speaker wire.. On 11/29/21, she wet the bed, so he made her do wall planks then he gave her a "whoopin" with a belt. During this "whoopin" the child tried to protect herself by moving a stereo speaker in front of her to block the father's actions. The father then proceeded to take the speaker wire and "whoop" her with that and then had her do more rigorous exercises while he drew her a bath. When he found his child was having seizure like symptoms and appeared to be losing consciousness, he put her in the bath in an effort to revive her, when that did not work he called 9-1-1. The father admitted to hitting the child several times on her legs and back using a belt and a speaker wire/cable. The father reported that he hit the child at least 7-
8 times. The father admitted that this is not the first time he has used physical discipline on the child and shared that he physically disciplined the child last week using a belt where he again hit the child 8 times and also punched her in the chest.
Following these assaults, Alani was hospitalized with critical injuries that included:
A brain injury
Subdural hematoma (a type of bleeding that occurs between the brain and its outermost covering)
Spinal compression
Multiple bone fractures
Numerous contusions and abrasions
Due to the extent of her injuries, Alani was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles for specialized care.
Legal Proceedings
In November 2024, Alexander was convicted on multiple felony counts including:
Torture
Assault on a child causing a comatose state
Corporal injury to a child
The jury also found several aggravating factors relevant to his sentencing:
Use of a Weapon: Alexander was armed with and used weapons during the assaults.
Vulnerability of Victim: Alani was only four years old at the time of the abuse.
Position of Trust: As her father, Alexander held a position of trust which he exploited.
Great Bodily Injury: The assaults resulted in severe injuries to a child under five years old.
On December 14, 2024, he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. However, it remains unclear when he might be eligible for parole consideration.
Impact on Victim
As of now, Alani continues to suffer from profound disabilities resulting from her father’s actions. She remains paralyzed and is in a vegetative state, requiring round-the-clock medical care for basic functions such as eating and hygiene. This tragic outcome highlights not only the immediate consequences of child abuse but also its long-term effects on victims and their families.
Conclusion
The case against Tekquan Alexander serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that domestic violence can have on children. His conviction reflects society’s commitment to holding abusers accountable while emphasizing the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from harm.
