A warrant was issued As police was closing in on him with numerous cumulated evidence. The Fox Hollow farm property was not searched at the time and Herbert Baumeister took off before being arrested.
Herbert Richard Baumeister (April 7, 1947 – July 3, 1996) was an American businessman and a suspected serial killer. A resident of the Infianapolis suburb of Westfield , Indiana. Baumeister was under investigation for murdering over a dozen men in the early 1990s, most of whom were last seen at gay bars. Police found the remains of eleven people, eight identified, on Baumeister's property. Baumeister committed suicide after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was later linked to a series of murders of at least nine men along Interstate I-70 which occurred in the early to mid-1980s.
In a rambling, three-page suicide note, Herb explained that he originally planned to kill himself somewhere else, but had seen lots of children nearby and changed locations. He apologized in the note for “messing up” the park, blaming the end of his marriage and the failure of his business for his suicide.
