O.J. Simpson Hall of Fame sports card

This auction is for a sports card featuring football player and media superstar Mr. Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson, also known as the "Juice." Mr. Simpson is, without question, one of the greatest running backs in American football history, if not the greatest running back to ever play the game! Along with this college and pro football careers, Simpson has been an advertising spokesman, broadcaster, film actor, and author. In Los Angeles, CA, 1995, O.J. Simpson was found not guilty for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, however, he was found liable in a wrongful death lawsuit in 1997. Simpson's legal troubles would return in 2008 with an armed robbery and kidnapping conviction out of Las Vegas, NV, resulting in an excessive 33 year prison sentence. On 10/1/2017, O.J. Simpson was granted parole. He would be discharged from parole supervision on 12/14/2021.

ATHLETIC CAREER: Mr. Simpson won the USC Heisman Trophy in 1968, logging 1,709 yards and scoring 22 touchdowns in the regular season, carrying the ball an NCAA-record of 334 times. In his 22-game career, O.J. Simpson gained 3,423 yards, scored 36 touchdowns,winning a national title and two Pac-8 crowns. His 11 season professional NFL career was no different. Simpson was selected as the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He became the first pro player to rush for over 2,000 yards, when he gained 2,003 in 1973, a feat achieved in just 14 games! This earned the Bill's offensive line the nickname "Electric Company." He later went on to be a sports broadcaster for both NBC and ABC. O.J. Simpson athletic titles include inductions into the College Hall of Fame in 1983, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985, the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1993, and the USC Hall of Fame in 1994.

OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS: In 1975 Hertz-Rent-A-Car hired Simpson as their spokesman, an edgy move at the time. The Hertz Corporation's net profits jumped 50% to $42.2 million. Simpson would go on to work with RC Cola, Schick, Chevrolet, Foster Grant, and Dingo cowboy boots. Simpson took numerous roles film acting, first appearing on screen in 1968, yet likely best known for his appearance in the television series Roots and The Naked Gun movie trilogy. While incarcerated for the murders of his wife and her friend, Simpson penned his first book, I Want to Tell You: My Response to Your Letters, Your Messages, Your Questions. It was released in 1995, during the sensationalized legal proceedings. Simpson also authored a second book, If I Did It, a hypothetical description of the murders. The publishing rights to that tome were seized by the Goldman family and the book was re-titled If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer.

CRIMINAL HISTORY: On the morning of 6/13/1994, Mr. Simpson's ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were found stabbed to death in Los Angeles, CA. Simpson would ultimately be arrested and charged with double homicide. The internationally publicized legal proceedings would become known as "The Trial of the Century," with Simpson ultimately being found not guilty on 10/3/1995. Despite seemingly strong evidence against Simpson, the case was riddled with gross incompetence by police, blatant mishandling of evidence, perjury, and racism. Despite the acquittal, a wrongful death civil lawsuit was filed by the Goldman family, finding Simpson liable for the deaths of both victims. On 2/5/1997, the jury ordered Simpson to pay $33,500,000 in damages. O.J. Simpson would find himself once again in the legal "hot seat," this time being arrest for his role in a robbery, which took place 9/13/2008, inside a hotel room at the Palace Station: Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The items taken were O.J. Simpson related memorabilia and personal items, said to be originally stolen from Simpson himself. On 10/8/2008, he would be convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping and receive an overkill sentence of 33 years in prison. At his 7/20/2017 parole hearing O.J. Simpson was granted parole. He would be released on 10/1/2017. On 12/14/2021, O.J. Simpson would be discharged from parole supervision.

ITEM DESCRIPTION: The 1989 NBC sports card will come in a thin protective plastic sleeve and will be packed secure and sturdy. The card is in pristine shape. While my specialty isn't sports or collector card grading, I feel safe saying that is card is in mint condition. There are no surface scratches on either side and the corners are sharp. The face of the card features an image of the Heisman Trophy winner running along with a football.
