Letter/envelope set from the Kansas Bind, Torture, Kill serial killer, signed with B.T.K. moniker.
This auction is for a letter from Kansas serial killer Dennis Lynn Rader, the B.T.K. (Bind, Torture, Kill) Killer. From 1974 to 1991, Dennis Rader committed a series of murders in Wichita, KS. He took to taunting police through letters with trophies he took from his victims, which lead to his arrest. The case was largely celebrated in the press. He subsequently guilty plead guilty and is serving multiple life sentences. Due to the years in which Dennis Rader committed his actual crimes he wasn't eligible to receive the death penalty under Kansas law.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: The missive is two pages on one sheet, dated 2/8/2013, and signed with his initials at the end, "D.L.R." You might want to take another look at those initials there. What do you see? Those of you familiar with the Rader case will see the BTK moniker hidden in the signature. Rader very seldom signs with this namesake these day. He is one of the final "greats" of serial murder. With harsher prison sentences and police technological advancements there will be very few cases as celebrated as his in the years to come. So here's your chance to get your very own BTK signature! Rader has printed his full name and address on the first page of the letter and with his return address on the envelope. The missive itself is to a collector who used to write Rader as a woman. Unfortunately for the collector Rader is meticulous with his record keeping and caught the handwriting, thus adding the writer to his "Viper Club" of murderabilia collectors and scam artists just out to make a buck. Contrary to what folks might think, most inmates loath true crime autograph collectors. The original mailing envelope is postmarked 2/11/2013. The letter and envelope come inside a protective magazine sleeve with an acid free board and have been stored flat. Message me with any questions you might have. Thanks for having a look-see.
