A Fatal Encounter: The Murder of Leilani Beauchamp
Jessica Yesenia Quintanilla was born in California in 2000. Details about her early life, family background, education, and employment history remain largely undisclosed. What is known is her association with Airman Juan Parra-Peralta, with whom she shared a romantic relationship that had recently ended. Her brother, Marco Antonio Quintanilla, had a criminal history, including a prior conviction for attempted murder.
On October 30, 2021, after attending a Halloween party in Sacramento, Leilani Beauchamp accompanied Airman Juan Parra-Peralta and another airman to a residence on Cascade Lane in Fairfield. The following morning, Quintanilla arrived at the house, allegedly to retrieve her belongings after breaking up with Parra-Peralta the previous night. Upon discovering Beauchamp in bed with Parra-Peralta, an altercation ensued, during which Quintanilla fatally shot Beauchamp.
After the shooting, Quintanilla coerced Parra-Peralta into assisting her in disposing of Beauchamp's body. They transported the victim's remains over 130 miles to Salinas, where they discarded her body down a hillside, wrapped in a blanket. Authorities discovered Beauchamp's body on October 31, 2021.
Law enforcement swiftly apprehended Quintanilla, charging her with first-degree murder. Her brother, Marco, was arrested as an accessory to murder and for violating his parole related to a previous attempted murder conviction. Parra-Peralta was granted immunity in exchange for his testimony against Quintanilla.
During the trial, Quintanilla claimed the shooting was accidental, alleging that the firearm discharged during a struggle with Parra-Peralta. However, the jury found her guilty of first-degree murder in November 2024. She was subsequently sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in January 2025. Her brother, Marco, received a four-year sentence for his role as an accessory after the fact.
The murder of Beauchamp had a profound impact on her family and community. Her grandmother, Lourdes Giovannini, expressed the family's immense grief, highlighting the void left by Beauchamp's absence.
