Miles Bryant was involved in a criminal case concerning the murder of 16-year-old Susana Morales. He was a former Doraville, Georgia police officer accused of kidnapping and murdering Susana Morales. In January 2024, he was charged with attempted rape in connection with the case. However, in June 2024, he was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping, and false report of a crime but was acquitted on the charge of criminal attempt to commit rape. His trial concluded with a sentence of life without parole.
Susana Morales, a 16-year-old girl, vanished on July 26, 2022, while walking home in Norcross, Georgia. Her last known location was near Oak Loch Trace and Steve Reynolds Boulevard. Miles Bryant, a former Doraville police officer, was charged with her murder after her remains were found nearly 20 miles away in February 2023. Bryant was initially charged with concealing a death and later faced additional charges, including murder and kidnapping. The case took a significant turn when a gun registered to Bryant was found near Morales' remains. During the trial, bodycam footage and witness testimonies painted a picture of the events leading up to and following Morales' disappearance. Bryant's trial concluded with him being found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping, and false report of a crime.
The investigation revealed that Bryant had a pattern of lewd and illegal acts, including breaking into apartments to steal undergarments and sending himself photographs and videos of women engaging in sexual acts without their permission.
In particular, the investigation cites nine times Bryant had allegedly accessed sexual photos and videos without the owner’s knowledge. Several times, Bryant reportedly used his position as a police officer to go through the phones of people he had arrested or encountered, sending the private media to himself. Some of the photos and videos had also been taken from fellow unit members when Bryant was in the National Guard, according to the filing.
The filing also lists several other incidents – including four instances where Bryant allegedly broke into or tried to break into female classmates’ residences during and after they attended school together.
In one of the cases from 2018, the then-16-year-old victim noticed she had multiple pairs of underwear missing after Bryant reportedly broke into her home. But she didn’t file a police report because an unknown law enforcement officer contacted her, saying Bryant “had a promising career in both the military and police and charges against [Bryant] would jeopardize those plans,” according to the filing. She didn’t come forward until Bryant was arrested in connection to Morales’ death.
In May 2022, Bryant was responding to a missing person call when the 13-year-old in question came back home. He scolded the teenager, the filing says.
“If something was to happen to you during a rape or a missing person and then we find your body out there in the woods, then what?” he allegedly said. The incident happened two months before Morales went missing.
