Letter/envelope set from the deceased and Washington's first serial killer.
This auction is for a letter from deceased Washington serial killer John Dwight Canaday (1945 - 12/26/2012). Between 1968 and 1969, John Canaday raped and murdered three young women. On 12/17/1968, John Canaday knocked on the door of a pregnant 16-year-old girl, the house picked at random. He then raped and stabbed the girl 57 times. John Canaday would go on to murder at least two more women in 1969, ages 20 and 21. It was those two murders that would earn him a death sentence, a sentence that would be overturned in 1972 with the U.S. Supreme Court striking down the death penalty. 35 years later his DNA was linked to the 1968 case. John Canaday would plead guilty and received an additional life sentence. John Canaday is considered to be Washington's first known serial killer. John Canaday died of natural caused 12/26/2012.
