One page letter/envelope set from the Charleston Massacre church shooter.
This auction is for a letter from Charleston Massacre church shooter Dylann Storm Roof. On 6/17/2015, Dylann Roof entered the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, shooting 10 parishioner during a bible study, leaving nine dead. The case immediately became the centerpiece of every media outlet in America. He was arrested the following day in North Carolina, where he would ultimately confess to the crimes, citing race related motives. Dylann Roof would later be convicted on multiple federal counts, becoming the first person convicted under the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act. He was sentenced to death on 1/11/2017. In a subsequent South Carolina state trail Dylann Roof plead guilty in exchange for multiple life sentences rather than receive a second set of death sentences. Dylann Roof, who was 21-years-old at the time of his crimes, has remained unapologetic and has stood by his actions, stating, "I think it's safe to say nobody in their mind wants to go into a church and kill people. In my [FBI confession] tape I told them I had to. But it's not true: I didn't have to. No one made me. What I meant was: I felt like I had to do it. I still feel like I have to do it." He currently awaits execution in a U.S. federal prison.
