Harvey Louis Carignan (May 18, 1927 – March 6, 2023) was an American serial killer who was sentenced to life in prison for the murders of two women in the early 1970s. He had been previously convicted of a 1949 rape and murder he committed while stationed in the U.S. Army, in Anchorage, Alaska.
He never liked to talk about the killings and always said that he got the moniker Harvey the Hammer Carignan because of Ann Rules book written on him wich was far from the truth and that he never used a hammer . He was always careful not writting or drawing anything incriminating until this final drawing.
Harvey Carignan’s artwork is very hard to come by and this is I’m certain his very last piece of artwork . Notice the little mouse coming from the back with a gigantic hammer while Lisa or Maggie is taking her bath……a sort of confession after denying it all these years!
This piece is also signed and dated Harvey Carignan and a more rare signature related to his ancestors from his fathers side H.L Bélanger and dated 2022
Harvey Carignan reportedly died in a Minnesota prison where he’s been housed for decades, TMZ reports.
Carignan used the popular want ads section of the newspaper to lure women into his sickening traps. Once they bit, he would rape them before bludgeoning his victims to death with a hammer.
During his long criminal career, the serial killer managed to escape the hangman’s rope. While stationed with the U.S. Army in Anchorage, Alaska, he was arrested and charged for the attempted rape and murder of a woman in 1949.
But the conviction was overturned in 1951.
