This auction is for a letter from deceased F.B.I. Director J. Eagar Hoover, born John Edgar (1/1/1895 – 5/2/1972). Hoover founded the FBI in 1935, which used to be the Bureau of Investigation, and ran the policing organization with an iron fist. Hoover went after the gangsters of the 1930's, then switched gears setting his sights on civil rights activists. This proved to be a very poor move on the F.B.I.'s part and the organization became very unpopular. It took the creation of the serial killer, the super predator whose motives were driven by sex and a lust for murder, that of to revitalize the police force. Naturally, that was mostly untruths, but a new villain was required and the civil rights leaders weren't cutting it! Needless to say, Hoover has left his mark on the modern-day history of true crime. He was 77-years-old.

ITEM DESCRIPTION: The completely typed one page missive is printed on office F.B.I. letter head, dated 1/21/1947, and is signed, "J. E. Hoover." The original mailing envelope is postmarked 2/5/1947.
