Details of the Kidnapping Incident

After stealing the car with the twins inside, Jackson drove around various locations in Ohio before arriving at Dayton International Airport early on December 20. At approximately 3 a.m., she parked the stolen vehicle and entered the airport but later returned to find that she had forgotten where she parked. In her confusion, she abandoned one of the infants, Ky’air, in the airport parking lot. A passerby discovered him wrapped in a quilt between two vehicles and alerted security.

Jackson continued her journey to Indianapolis with Kason still in the vehicle. She ultimately left Kason strapped in his car seat for over two days while she engaged in selling stolen merchandise outside a gas station. During this time, community members and law enforcement were actively searching for both infants.

Discovery and Arrest

The search for Kason concluded when two local women recognized Jackson from social media posts about the kidnapping while they were out looking for him. They devised a plan to confirm her identity and contacted law enforcement after verifying that she was indeed the suspect. Shortly thereafter, police arrested Jackson.

Kason was found alive but severely dehydrated and suffering from health issues due to being left alone in the car for an extended period. He was treated for dehydration and other medical conditions resulting from his ordeal.

Legal Proceedings

Jackson faced serious charges as a result of her actions. Initially pleading not guilty, she later accepted a plea agreement that included two counts of kidnapping minors. In August 2023, U.S. District Judge Michael Watson sentenced her to 23 years and four months in federal prison after rejecting an earlier plea deal that recommended a 20-year sentence.

During sentencing, Jackson expressed remorse for her actions but attributed her behavior to having taken methamphetamine at the time of the incident. The judge emphasized that her actions demonstrated blatant disregard for the lives of vulnerable infants.

Impact on Victims’ Family

Tragically, one of the twins, Ky’air Thomas, died unexpectedly about a month later due to what was ruled as sudden unexplained infant death (SUID). This death was determined by officials not to be directly related to his kidnapping experience but rather attributed to unsafe sleeping conditions.

As part of her sentence, Nalah Jackson is required to register as a sex offender and will be under supervised release for five years following her prison term.
