Letter/envelope set from the desceased California serial killer.
This auction is a letter from California serial killer Herbert William Mullin (4/18/1947 - 8/18/2022). With a lethal mixture of untreated paranoid schizophrenia, firm beliefs in Catholicism, and repressed homosexuality, Herbert Mullin elected to kill at least 13 people residing in and around Santa Cruz, CA, in the early 1970's in order to prevent catastrophic earthquakes. You see, Herbert Mullin's birthday was on the same month and date of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. In his mind he believed his crimes would save the State of California. His method of murder varied, including a brutal stabbing death of a priest in a confessional at St. Mary's Church in Los Gatos on 11/2/1972. Herbert Mullin believed that Catholic priest wanted to be killed in order to stop a potential earthquake. Herbert Mullin believed this so much, at the time of his arrest on 2/13/1973, he assured is arresting officers that he had prevented major earthquakes with his murderous actions. If he was right we owe ol' Herb a debt of gratitude. However, at his trial his version of events couldn't be collaborated. On 8/19/1973, a jury convicted Herbert Mullin on 10 of 10 murder charges. Herbert Mullin would later plead guilty to an additional murder. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Herbert Mullin proclaimed his rehabilitation and believed his debt to society had been paid. Unfortunately, the parole board hasn't agreed with him, denying all parole bids made by the serial killer. At his last parole suitability hearing, in 2011, resulted in a 10 year extension of his sentence. Herbert Mullin died of natural causes on 8/18/2022. He was 75.
