Letter/envelope set from the executed multistate serial killer.
This auction is for a letter from executed multistate serial killer Lewis Eugene Gilbert (10/29/1971 - 7/1/2003). On 9/3/1994, Gilbert, with 16-year-old accomplice Eric Elliot, kidnapped, robbed, and murdered a woman, who was fishing. She was bound and shot three times in the head and once in the neck. The pair would be arrested three days after in New Mexico. But Gilbert's crimes started earlier that year, murdering an elderly woman in Ohio and an elderly couple in Missouri. The body of the Ohio victim was never found. Gilbert received death sentences in both Missouri and Oklahoma. Elliot was sentenced to life without parole. Gilbert was executed 7/1/2003. He was 31.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: The missive is two pages on two sheets, dated 3/19/2003, and is signed, "Lewis." The letter has a few little doodles drawn. Gilbert has also enclosed a religious sheet. The original mailing envelope is postmarked 3/20/2003 with an Oklahoma DOC stamp on the reverse.
