Letter/envelope set from the executed Georgia Stocking Strangler.
This auction is for a letter from executed Georgia serial killer Carlton Michael Gary (9/24/1950S – 3/15/2018). In 1970, Carlton Gary found himself connected to a series of robberies and a murder in New York. Blaming (and telling on) an accomplice he was able to beat any murder conviction. Upon paroling he'd become the suspect of another two sexual assaults and a murder, but again, never being convicted. After catching a violation Gary was returned to prison in New York. He escaped in 1977 and fled to Georgia, where Carlton Gary went on another crime spree, targeting elderly women. He often used a stocking to strangle his victims. In 1978 he would be arrested and convicted of armed robbery. After escaping, yet again, in 1983, Carlton Gary was able to have roughly one more year of freedom before law enforcement connected all the dots. He would be convicted of three murders from 1977 to 1978, earning himself a death sentence. While only being convicted of the three, he's linked to four additional homicides and multiple sexual assaults. Carlton Gacy would be depicted on the popular true crime television series Mindhunter. Carlton Gary would be executed 3/15/2018. When asked if he had any last words he had no response, also turning down his last meal and a final prayer. He was 67.
