Letter/envelope set from the Kentucky Heath High School shooter.
This auction is for a letter from Heath High School shooter Michael Carneal. High school can be a difficult place for some kids, it was particularly rough for young Michael Carneal. Being overweight and socially awkward, he was bullied by many of his classmates. In this day and age his tormentors would have been guilty under bullying laws, they would be the criminals in this story. But this incident didn't happen last week. On 12/1/1997, while suffering a mental breakdown, Michael Carneal shot eight of his classmates, three would later die as a result of their injuries. He was 14-years-old at the time. Michael Carneal accepted a plea agreement and was sentenced to 25 years to life imprisonment. In 1999, the parents of the victims elected to sue Michael Carneal, internet pornography websites, video game manufacturers, film companies, more than 50 defendants in total, blaming Michael Carneal's activities on their influence. This is true now; one calm was Michael Carneal's proficient marksmanship was due to practice in violent video games. At the end of the day the parent's won $42 million dollars, but the judgement was against Michael Carneal alone, all the other defendants were dismissed. Michael Carneal is serving his sentence in a Kentucky state prison. He becomes eligible for parole in 2023.
