Letter/envelope from the 16-year-old Mississippi mass murderer.
This auction is for a letter from Mississippi teenage mass murderer Stephen McGilberry. On 10/23/1994, 16-year-old Stephen McGilberry, with 14-year-old accomplice Chris Johnson, beat four of McGilberry's family members to death with baseball bats. The victims included his stepfather, mother, sister, and her 3-year-old son. The motive was theft and just all-around being rotten kids. The pair were arrested the following day. Stephen McGilberry would confess and be sentenced to death in 1996. In 2005 the United States Supreme Court vacated all death sentences of persons who committed their crimes as minors. He was given four life without parole sentences. In 2012 the United States Supreme Court also ruled that life without parole sentences imposed on juveniles constituted cruel and unusual punishment, but the State Supreme Court found a way to uphold that sentence.
