Letter/envelope set from the deceased New York Genesse River Killer.
This auction is for a letter from deceased New York "Genesee River Killer" Arthur John Shawcross (6/6/1945 – 11/10/2008). After returning home from serving in the Vietnam War in 1972 Arthur Shawcross murdered two young children. He would take a deal, pleading guilty to the murder of a young boy. The rape and murder of a young girl went unanswered. After serving 12 years he was paroled and went on to kill at least 11 women, most of whom were prostitutes. The victims were mutilated and showed signs of cannibalism. After a failed insanity defense Arthur Shawcross was convicted of 10 counts, later pleading guilty to an 11th, receiving multiple life sentences for the murders. He confessed to performing acts of rape, torture, and cannibalism while in Vietnam, citing that violence was part of his inspiration for his later crimes. After complaining of leg pain on 11/10/2008, Arthur Shawcross was taken to an outside hospital, where he died that evening. He was 63.
