Letter/envelope set from the deceased England Yorkshire Ripper.
This auction is for a letter from deceased United Kingdom serial killer Peter William Sutcliffe (6/2/1946 – 11/13/2020), also known as the Yorkshire Ripper. Between 1975 and 1980, Peter Sutcliffe murdered 13 women and attempted to murder seven others. His used a knife or hammer to kill his victims, hence the moniker given to him by the press. He was arrested on 1/2/1981 and subsequently confessed, citing he was on a mission from God to kill prostitutes, although not all of Peter Sutcliffe's victims were. He would be sentenced to multiple life terms. After his conviction he opted to change his name to Peter William Coonan, Coonan being his mother's maiden name. During his incarceration Peter Sutcliffe has bounced back and forth between psychiatric facilities and prison. In 2011, after a failed appeal motion, it was decided that Peter Sutcliffe should never be released from custody. Peter Sutcliffe died of coronavirus on 11/13/2020. He was 74.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: The missive is four pages on two sheets, dated 5/15/2014, and signed, "Pete." Sutcliffe has put his name and return address on the top right hand corner of the first page. The entirety is covered with little stickers, eight per sheet and one on the envelope. The original mailing envelope accompanies this letter. On the reverse of the envelope Sutcliffe has put his return address. There is a green Broadmoor Hospital Postal Monitors slip that accompanied the mailing, dated 5/16/2014.
