Isaac Arthur Arndt was born in 2006 in Fargo, North Dakota. Details about his early life, family background, and education remain largely undisclosed. Prior to the incident, Arndt resided in Fargo and had been in a romantic relationship with Jaelyn Walker for several months before their breakup.

On the evening of August 19, 2024, Isaac Arndt and Jaelyn Walker met near Gooseberry Park in Moorhead, Minnesota. Their meeting took a dark turn when an argument ensued regarding Arndt's new relationship. In a fit of rage, Arndt produced a knife and stabbed Walker approximately 13 times, inflicting fatal wounds to her back, torso, and neck. After the assault, he dragged her body to the Red River and fled the scene on his scooter.​

Following the murder, Arndt attempted to fabricate a story, claiming that an unknown assailant had attacked them. However, inconsistencies in his account led investigators to uncover the truth. He was arrested on August 23, 2024, by the Moorhead Police Department and charged with first-degree premeditated murder and second-degree intentional murder. A grand jury indicted him on these charges in October 2024. Subsequently, a court ruled him competent to stand trial.

The brutal nature of the crime deeply affected the community. Jaelyn Walker, a young girl with a promising future, became a tragic symbol of the devastating consequences of unchecked anger and violence. The public and media reacted with a mix of grief and outrage, leading to discussions about youth violence and the importance of addressing mental health issues among teenagers.​
